The Consular Section manages the annual Diversity Visa program in Port Moresby. Each year the United States Congress allocates a limited number of immigrant visas for persons to emigrate to the United States. The program is called the Diversity Visa Lottery and generally the process begins each year in August with a general application to apply for the lottery. The instructions are simple but specific and must be followed exactly. If an applicant's name is selected in the lottery they may then apply for an immigrant visa and complete the immigrant visa process. Immigrant visas are processed at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
